Yesterday, France again snabbed its snose, so it seems, at Lady genocide’s appeal against political asylum. This, a few days before President Kagame arrives for a State visit.
But, don’t rejoice yet. Let’s examine the facts.
April 6, 1994 : Hutu extremists and members of AKAZU shoot down Habyarimana’s plane.
April 9, 1994 : France evacuates “Lady G”, along with 30 other members of AKAZU to France, where upon arrival she is given $40,000 from a budget allocated for “assistance for Rwandan refugees.” (you really can’t make this stuff up !)
2006 : Rwanda breaks off diplomatic relations with France.
January 4, 2007 : France denies Kanzinga’s petition for asylum.
February 10, 2010 : President Sarkozy visits Rwanda, and almost confesses to France’s complicity in the genocide against the Tutsi in 1994. But, not quite. Soon after his visit, within 24 hours upon arrival in Paris, Kanzinga and 67 other accomplices are taken into custody.
TODAY, as I speak, Kanzinga’s legal options are exhausted. Let’s see what France does. There are two options : send her back to Rwanda to face justice, OR, since she has not been indicted by the ICTR in Arusha, simply deport her from France, and let the dice roll.
But, like I said, I smell a rat.
